Chairman of Council of Europe Congress Visits Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi, 9 September/ Trend , N. Kirtskhalia/ Chairman of Congress of the Council of Europe Yavuz Mildon will visit Georgia on 9 to 11 September to assess situation in Georgia and discuss possible help for authorities, Council of Europe Office in Georgia said.

Mildon will meet with vice speaker of the Georgian parliament Mikheil Machavariani, state minister on regional policy David Tkeshelashvili, mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava and head of provincial government Zaal Samadashvili. He will also hold meetings in the Foreign Ministry of Georgia and OSCE representations.

On 11 September, Mildon will arrive in Gori, will visit refugee camps and will also meet with Lado, Vardzelashvili, governor of Shida Kartli province.

Press conference will be held in Council of Europe Office in Tbilisi on 11 September.

At the night of 8 August, large-scale military operations were launched in the self-declared South Ossetia republic. The Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later the Russian troops entered the city and drove the Georgian forces back to the Georgian territory.

On 12 August, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has decided to end operations to compel Georgia to peace.

The Russian peacekeepers and international observers are still in Georgia.
