Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 September / Trend corr. J.Babayeva /The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) believes that boycott of the upcoming presidential elections by part of opposition parties will not affect the legality of the process.

"The legality of the government, formed as a result of elections, and its results depend on the population's relation to the issue. Furthermore, this relation will affect the results of the elections," Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of NAP, told Trend .

In early September three opposition parties Musavat and Public Forum For the name of Azerbaijan signed a joint statement which recognizes the presidential elections illegitimate. The authorities, which will be formed after the elections, is announced illegitimate.

"Most parties boycott elections in different times. However, party can boycott the elctions if it sees its ow failure or lack of force. This is not a boycott. The statement by a party to boycott the elections makes people laughing," said Ahmadov.

If oppoition parties acknowledged openly that they are not ready for the elections or to compete with Ilham Aliyev, who is a strong political force supported by population, it may have raised their authority.

"Unfortunately, several opposition partiesd in Azerbaijan misrepresent facts and attempting to explain non-paricipation in the elections alledle the Azerbaijani Government did not create conditions for free elections," said Ahmadov.

The statements by some opposition parties regarding the elections are illogical and unethical.

NAP was founded in Nakhchivan in 1992.  The all-nation leader, the late ex-President Heydar Aliyev was the Party's first Chairman. President Ilham Aliyev is the current chairman of the Party, which has been in power for 14 years.
