Presidential Vote in Azerbaijan is Normal, Says Elections 2008 NGO Coalition

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 October/ Trend , corr I. Alizade/ Elections 2008 NGO Coalition, who is observing the vote, says the vote is normal and there are no serious irregularities. "Observers say voters are active in several Constituency Election Commissions as of 02:00p.m. local time," a report said.

The activity of voters made up 31.7% in 59 Constituency Election Commissions as of 12:00a.m. local time. In some constituencies, the activity has even reached 40%. These constituencies include Constituency Election Commission 13 of Azizbayov (34.1%), N 67 in Jalilabad (35%), N 125 in Gubadli - Zangilan - (38%), N 41 in Sumgayit (40%), N 39 in Ganja (Kapaz) (35.3%), N 95 in Terter (38.7%), N 49 in Yevlakh-Mingachevir (37.1%). In some constituencies this makes up less than 30%. For example, N 43 in Sumgayit (21.8), N 19 in Narimanov (20.99%), N 25 Nizami (22%) and Sabunchu constituency (25%).

A of total of seven candidates run for presidency including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of Ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Igbal Agazade, chairman opposition Umid (Hope) Party, Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party, Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party, Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.
