Georgia, Tbilisi, 30 October / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia/ The key goal of the visit to Georgia of a European Parliament delegation is to support the population of the country, head of the European Parliament's delegation Marie Anne Isler Béguin said after her meeting with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze.

"The visit was ordered by the President of the European Parliament. Within three days we got acquainted in Gori with the state of refugees, with the utilization of the funds allotted for them," she said.

Isler Béguin said she had met with the representatives of the EU military observers, who informed her about the situation at the areas bordering the conflict zones. "The war should not have taken place, but unfortunately it did happen. I warned all many times that the conflicts in Georgia are not "frozen" and must be settled," she said.

Isler Béguin does not intend to blame anybody, but "that which the civilians suffered in result of the war arouses concern". "We will submit our report to the European Parliament which will determine the exact directions of the assistance to the population," she said.

According to the Isler Béguin, the European Parliament will wait for the results of the investigation of the beginning of the Georgia-Russia conflict to make its official statement.
