Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 November / Trend , corr. J.Babayeva / Azerbaijani opposition parties - Democratic and Musavat consider expedient the foreign radio broadcasting to meet the state legislation. "Suspension of broadcasting of foreign radio stations is understood as deprivation of citizens' right to get information from alternative resources, as well as violation of protected international right to get information and speak out one's opinion freely. Instead of suspension of broadcasting of foreign radio stations it will be better to bring them close to Azerbaijan's legislation," it was said at the meeting of the administration of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan on 3 November. Maharramli said on 31 October that the BBC, Svoboda and the Voice of America radio stations would stop live broadcast in the country by the end of 2009. "At the end of this year all foreign radio stations will lose the frequencies through which they broadcast in Azerbaijan. Foreign radio stations will broadcast via satellite, internet and cable network," said Maharramli. "Unfortunately, some organizations politicize the decision of the Council to stop broadcast of foreign radio stations. The decision was legally based," Maharramli said. The authorized bodies of Musavat Party urged not to prevent activity of foreign radio stations, which politically enlighten the Azerbaijani community. "Broadcasting of foreign radio stations should not be stopped, on the contrary, it is necessary to create favorable conditions for their normal activity," the party said on 3 November. |
