Afghanistan to Hold Elections in Time Stipulated in Constitution, Says Parliament’s Speaker

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 December / Trend corr. T.Jafarov/ Afghan Parliament many times decided to hold presidential elections in the country in time stipulated in the Constitution. We are loyal to the Constitution of Afghanistan, Speaker of the Afghan Parliament Yunis Ganuni said to Trend .

Representative of Afghanistan's independent elections commission said to Trend that the Government and representatives of the commission discuss delay of presidential elections in Afghanistan. Elections usually take place in Afghanistan in February and President takes up his duties two months later.

Elections may be postponed due to unfavourable weather in March, said Chairman of the independent elections commission Zakariya Bargazi.

Presidential elections will take place in Afghanistan on 20 February 2009.
