Gaza conflict affects all: former British PM

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 8/ Trend /

The conflict in the Middle East affects the global economy, political policies and culture. The international community must do everything possible to stop the war, Vesti TV channel quoted former British Prime Minister Tony Blair as saying at the "New World - New Capitalism" conference in Paris.

"The problem must be solved so the two nations will be able to live side by side, and Israel will not fear for its existence," a special representative of the Middle East Quartet said.

International efforts failed to end the war between the Israeli army and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The conflict has claimed over 700 lives and injured 3,000.

Seven Israeli soldiers have died. Palestinian militants have fired hundreds of rockets into Israel killing four civilians.

On Jan. 7, French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that Israel accepted the France-Egypt ceasefire plan. Hamas leaders refused to accept the document.
