Ukraine, Kiev, Jan. 14/ Trend Z. Novsvitski/ Ukraine hopes to get confirmation of guarantees of its sovereignty and territorial integrity from China, Yuriy Yekhanurov, Defence Minister, told on Jan. 14 during the meeting with the leading staff of National Defence Academy of People's Liberation Army of People's Republic of China, Ukraine's Defence Ministry said.

"We would be grateful for confirmation of guarantees of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity from China as one of the biggest countries on which peace and stability in the world depends," Yekhanurov said.

On Nov. 16, 1994 Ukraine's Parliament made a decision to join Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty and on Dec. 5, 1994 the leaders of Russia, the United States, Great Britain signed Budapest memorandum with Ukraine's President.

Ukraine hasn't got strict and long term security guarantees, Yekhanurov said.

"All this stipulates that the existing legal status of memorandum is insufficient to be a base to provide Ukraine's national security. Actuality of security guarantees search follows it. Today we need to reflect in this document concrete international-legal mechanisms which would fix and confirm Ukraine's guarantees from the nuclear countries," Yekhanurov said.

Ukraine's military delegation headed by Ukraine's Defence Minister is on visit to People's Republic of China from Jan. 13 -18.
