Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 3/ Trend , A. Huseynbala/

An Azerbaijani opposition referendum initiative group may turn into a larger union.

"The founders of the Movement for Karabakh and the Republic initiative group will work together after the referendum vote. An agreement is being designed at the moment," People's Party Chairman and member of parliament Panah Huseyn told Trend .

The People's Party is a member of the opposition Union for Democracy.

The group of opposition parties that called last year's presidential elections illegitimate have started talks to launch a larger opposition coalition.

Huseyn said long-term cooperation within the movement is being discussed.

"I am a proponent of opposition cooperation in a larger format. As a democratic union, we should fight authoritarianism trends and seek governing democratic forces," he added.

The referendum vote to amend the constitution marked a new stage for the union.

"There were different terms for the opposition union before the referendum. The referendum eliminated these terms. I think such cooperation can mark a significant stage in our relations," Huseyn said.
