Turkmen State Television Chairman Alovov was severely reprimanded for poorly executing his obligations, weakening control over programs and reducing quality.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov issued the reprimand.

Vice Prime Minister Yazmuhamedova also reprimanded the chairman.

Yazmuhamedova also heads the State Mass Media and Culture Department.

Last week, Berdymuhamedov told the national television station to refrain from using standard programs and apply a more creative approach.

Since he became president in 2007, Berdymuhamedov has stressed the importance of educating the Turkmen population about the world's cultural heritage. His first decrees abolished bans on opera and the circus.

Ashgabat also hosts international theatrical and musical festivals. Days of culture of different countries are frequently held in Ashgabat.
