The Kyrgyz Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Legislation, Governmental Arrangements, Legality Issues and Human Rights supported President Kurmanbek Bakiyev's decree to close the Manas air base.

On Feb. 3, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev issued a decree to annul an agreement allowing coalition forces to use the base. The parliamentary international, constitutional and defense committees and all three factions must support the decree.

The defense and international committees have already approved the decree.

The parliament recommended voting on the issue at a meeting on Feb. 18.

Manas opened in Kyrgyzstan in December 2001 after an UN mandate to support coalition forces in Afghanistan.
