Uzbekistan appoints new permanent representative to UN

Murad Askarov was recently appointed Uzbekistan's representative to the UN, a government source said. 

The source said Askarov presented his credentials to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on Feb. 17.  

From 1997 to 2008, the position was held by Uzbek scientist Alisher Vahidov.

Askarov holds a doctorate degree in political sciences. He is an alumnus of the International Economics and Diplomacy University in Tashkent. He worked for the Foreign Ministry for 10 ten years. Askarov speaks Russian, Uzbek, English, German and Turkish.
