Today Turkmenistan celebrates the Day of State flag.
"Turkmen people built more than seventy states for their long history and always have a special veneration to their flag. The flag is a symbol of nationhood, sovereignty and happiness. We must be the generation commitment to traditions of ancestors and take care of our flag," Turkmen President Gyrbangulu Berdymuhamedov said.
In 2008, the largest flagstaff was established on the square in front of the National Museum in Ashgabat. The flag height of 133 meters, weighing nearly half a ton and measuring 52.2 by 35 meter was included into the Guinness Book of Records.
"Our today's great achievement and efforts to restore the spiritual and cultural values of the nation have a serious impact on a new spiritual rebirth of the nation, spiritual perfection of society. The Day of State flag of Turkmenistan is one of holidays to uniting people.
Turkmenistan adopted flag in 1992. This flag is the breadth of green with a vertical red and burgundy stripe, which are visible, five national carpet ornaments with white crescent and five stars.
The green colour was depicted on the flag of Seljuk Empire. This Empire appeared in the territory of Turkmenistan in the Middle Ages. The green colour personifies time and symbolizes life and land. The half moon describes sky and the five-pointed star symbolizes five littoral Caspian Sea regions.
