Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 23 / Trend A.Huseynbala / Agitation group on referendum established by Azerbaijani opposition again appealed to the Executive Power of Baku City to hold a demonstration on Mar. 1.

"We suggested the Executive Power to provide one of the eight squares on the territory of several districts of Baku," said Hasan Karimov, deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) represented in Movement for Karabakh and Republic.

The agitation campaign on referendum started on Mar. 18 in Azerbaijan.

According to the decision of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, 90 minutes ether time was provided on Public television and 90 minutes on Public radio.

During the agitation campaign, free ether time for the agitation groups will be provided four times on television and radio.

The agitation campaign will end on Mar. 16.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend the Constitution.

The CEC registered the New Azerbaijan Party, Shahar, Tereggi, Huquq Va Demokratiya, Vatandash Jamiyyati, For Long-Term Development, Zaka, Movement For Karabakh and the Republic and Republicans initiative groups. The Abad Kand, Azad Soz, Azerbaijan People's Republic and Milli Istiglal initiative groups failed to pass registration.

The Azerbaijani Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.

According to Karimov, the agitation groups Movement for Karabakh and Republic and Republicans do not plan to hold mass actions on the territories suggested by the Executive Power earlier. "Therefore, we suggested to allocate one of these places: Azneft, Ganjlar squares, squares near Elmlar Akademiyasi metro station, Mashadi Azizbayov and Jafar Jabbarli monuments," he said.

According to him, a decision was made to hold meetings in eight regions of Azerbaijan on Mar. 1. "A letter has already been sent to the Executive Power of Baku, and the parties founding the agitation groups will appeal to local executive power in the regions," Karimov said.

Republicans and Movement for Republic and Karabakh agitation groups planned to hold meeting on Feb. 22 on one of the central squares in Baku. However, the actions was cancelled, since the Executive Power of Baku suggested a place in Bibi-Heybat for the action.

The National Front Party of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party, Democrat Party, Musavat, Umid and NGOs launched the Movement for Republic and Karabakh initiative group.
