Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 24 / Trend , A.Huseynbala/
The governing New Azerbaijan Party's (NAP) referendum campaign group has held 70 events to promote the amendments to the Constitution.
"The group's representatives and lawyers are actively promoting the referendum in Baku and the regions," NAP Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov told Trend on Feb. 24.
The referendum campaign began on Feb. 18 and will end March 16 at midnight.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided to allot the referendum groups 90 minutes of airtime on both the Public Television and Public Radio stations.
Airtime will be provided on the television from 18:15 and on the radio from 20:15.
The groups will receive four blocks of free airtime during the campaign.
Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend the Constitution.
The CEC registered the New Azerbaijan, Shahar, Tereggi, Huquq Va Demokratiya, Vatandash Jamiyyati, For Long-Term Development, Zaka, Movement For Karabakh and the Republic and Republicans groups. The Abad Kand, Azad Soz, Azerbaijan People's Republic and Milli Istiglal groups failed to pass registration.
The Azerbaijani Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.
Novruzov said New Azerbaijan is the only group that has hung campaign posters at all the authorized locations since Feb. 19.
"We intend to continue the campaign at such a space," the NAP member said.
The NAP was established by Nakhchivan Parliamentary Speaker Heydar Aliyev in 1992.
President Ilham Aliyev is the party's chairman. The party has ruled the country for 16 years.
