Azerbaijani opposition referendum groups launch observation headquarters

The Azerbaijani opposition referendum groups Movement for Karabakh and the Republic and the Republicans have opened their observation headquarters.

The observation headquarters will organize joint monitoring of the referendum and gather information about constituencies. The headquarters will be located at the Musavat party office, the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan said.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.

The New Azerbaijan, City, Progress, Law and Democracy, Civil Society, For Sustainable Development and Intellect referendum initiative groups are campaigning for the referendum. The Movement for Karabakh and the Republic and the Republicans groups are campaigning against the referendum.

The Movement for Karabakh and the Republic and the Republicans decided to boycott the referendum to protest the proposed Constitutional amendments.

A hot-line will operate at the headquarters to enable voters to report violations.

The Movement for Karabakh and the Republic and the Republicans groups will hold a press conference on March 19 to make public their preliminary conclusions about the referendum.
