SCO anti-terrorism structure meets in Tashkent

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure Council (RATS) held its 14th meeting in Tashkent on March 27.

Representatives of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were attending, Uzbekistan Interior Ministry press officer told Trend .

SCO RATS Executive Committee Director, Kyrgyzstan representative Myrzakan Subanov delivered a report on fulfillment of Council's decisions. SCO RATS Council draft report to member countries on results of organization's activities over 2008.

"SCO RATS Executive Committee's activities over the period were assessed, positive outcome of the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism in the SCO member states was emphasized," the official report said.

All this became possible as a result of the program on cooperation among SCO members in fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2007-2009. It was noted that activities of the SCO RATS to implement planned arrangements meet today's threats and challenges in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism.

The SCO RATS member states approved the draft program of cooperation among the SCO member states in fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2010-2012.

The program was designed based on proposals of the parties and dynamics of cooperation within the SCO to combat new challenges and threats, Uzbekistan Interior Ministry said. There were suggestions and recommendations on implementation of planned activities in 2009.

The Council made several decisions on the structure, staff and financial security of the SCO RATS Executive Committee and further developing a legal framework for cooperation among the SCO member states in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism.
