Georgian police will be as transparent as the building they enter, President Mikheil Saakashvili said during the opening ceremony of the Interior Ministry's new building on March 31.

The head office of the Interior Ministry will now operate in this modern building.

A major achievement in Georgia has been law enforcement reforms, Saakashvili said.

"Georgia is as free from corruption and crime as this area where we are standing is clean," he said.

The level of crime is 6-7 times higher in several EU countries than in Georgia, Saakashvili said.

Criminals can no longer dictate terms as in the past, he added.

"One murder occurs over several weeks now while 16 were committed weekly before my presidency. Our police successfully fight criminals. I am sure this will continue in the future," Saakashvili said.
