The Algerian Culture Ministry has launched an active cooperation with representatives of the Azerbaijani scientific and research centers to exchange opinion and information to study the two countries' culture, Head of Religious and Historical Studies at the Algerian Culture Ministry Zaim Khanshalavi said.
"Algeria is striving for creating unions with the Azerbaijani anthropology study centers, as well as in culture and religion," Doctor Khanshalavi said at the international scientific conference on "Common views for new mind in contemporary world" in Baku on May 4.
Baku was announced the capital of the Islamic culture in 2009.
Khanshalavi said the Azerbaijani scientists' contribution to development of the world culture arouses a great interest to develop cooperation with this country.
"We expect the Azerbaijani academicians' visit to Algeria to meet with representatives of cultural organizations, as well as to make speech at the local TV and media," he said. "This will favor approach between Algeria and Azerbaijan which are unified by the only faith - Islam."
Khanshalavi hoped to take international measures against destruction of historical and cultural monuments in the Nagorno-Karabakh - the occupied territory of Azerbaijan."
"I worry about destruction [by Armenians] of mosques, historical monuments [in Nagorno-Karabakh], regarding the Azerbaijani government's initiative to preserve not only material, but also spiritual values.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
