Georgia President thanked military men quick response to put down rebellion in Mukhrovani during a meeting with the representatives of Georgian Armed Forces.
Before the president's statement, Georgia Armed Forces Chief Devi Chankotadze said that situation is normal in all divisions of the Armed Forces and the military men are doing routine work. He also said that the NATO has begun military exercises in Vaziani and exercises proceed normally.
The president welcomed the start of NATO exercises, expressing satisfaction at the fact that despite the protests of "certain forces" exercises in Georgia proceed as usual, "although we had to call Armed Forces chief back from Brussels."
President said yesterday's rebellion caused concerns, but the insurgency was very different from the rebellion of 2001. "The first difference is that while the rebellion was staged a military force, but now they were former military men. The second difference is that while government tried hard to persuade the rebels, but yesterday I gave them an hour to surrender their weapons.
We mobilized forces in a short period of time and were ready to put down the rebellion. Another difference is that military men who staged a revolt became almost heroes while now each of them will be held accountable before the law. We have strong state and yesterday's events testified to. We will not allow anyone to act in this way anymore," he said.
President said he is satisfied with soldiers who heard on television that they become participants in the rebellion and decided to resist the rebel officers and voluntarily surrendered their arms.
"We are a state in which there is no place for any rebellion and let nobody to create illusions that they will turn the country upside-down. State machinery ready to give an adequate response to all provocations," he said.
