Syria, Damascus, May 24 / Trend , U.Sadikhova/
Indirect peace talks Syria and Israel have failed, but not because of Turkey's incapacity as a mediator, but because of the new Israeli government's radical positions, first adviser to Syrian President Assad Bashshar on Political Affairs Buseyna Shaaban told Trend .
"Turkey is the most suitable mediator [in the Syrian-Israeli negotiations]. Therefore, statements about the ineffectiveness of the Israeli-Turkish mediation is an attempt to hide their radical intentions," Shhaban said at the 36th meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference foreign ministers in Damascus.
She added that to negotiate with the current Israeli Government, which refuses to return the Syrian Golan is useless, regardless of who is the facilitator.
Last week, Israeli President Shimon Peres called on Syria to begin direct talks without the participation of the mediators, Al Jazeera said.
Indirect peace talks with Syria and Israel mediated by Turkey were halted in January 2009, when Israel began its massive military action in Gaza against the Palestinian members of Hamas.
However, the situation deteriorated after the statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel's refusal to return the Syrian Golan Heights occupied in 1967.
