OIC seeks to develop mechanism for resolving conflicts in Muslim countries: Secretary-General

The Organization of the Islamic Conference is considering taking further steps to develop a mechanism for resolving conflicts in Islamic countries and for peace, OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told Trend .

"In addition to the established policy in the conflicts in Palestine, Nagorno-Karabakh, Somalia and Kashmir we consider the specific approach, which should develop a mechanism," Ihsanoglu said in Damascus, where the meeting of Foreign Ministers of OIC is taking place.

According to him, the Sunday closed ministerial meeting will be devoted to developing new plans for resolving conflicts and to take new steps.
 
At the meeting of foreign ministers to discuss the consideration of future plans in providing material and political assistance to Islamic countries - Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan.
 
As a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said that the position of Muslim countries is clear - to liberate Azerbaijani territories.
 
"We support Azerbaijan's opposition against Armenian occupation, and we demand withdrawal of troops from the occupied territories," Ihsanoglu said.
