Roughly 565 policemen were punished because of rough handling, infringement of rights and freedom of citizens within 3 years and a half, Azerbaijani interior minister Ramil Usubov said at the meeting with new head of OSCE Baku's office Bilge Jankorel on June 1.
Over 2,000 employees of the interior ministry participated in more than 50 workshops on different topics held by UN, EU and OSCE within 1997-2007, minister said.
The project Police supported by society is being held within cooperation with OSCE Baku's office and participation of international police experts in police department of Mingechaur beginning from June 2006.
Implementation of this project was coordinated with OSCE Baku's office beginning from 2008in Shirvan and continuation of this project in Mingechaur.
Realization of the project Police supported by society was launched in police departments of eight towns and regions of the Republic.
Head of the Interior Ministry Usubov familiarized ambassador with criminogenic situation in the Republic.
Jankorel stressed that cooperation between OSCE and the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry in all directions gives practical and positive results. He said that OSCE is interested in improving of police's activity and ready for assisting in this direction in future.
