Azerbaijani opposition party's protest action in front of Iranian Embassy failed

Azerbaijani opposition party failed to stage a protest action in front of the Iranian Embassy in Baku.

"Police has delivered a resolution of two members of the party to the Embassy," a member of the Musavat Party Gulaga Aslanli told Trend .

There are over 35 million Azerbaijanis in Iran. The facts of repression, arrests and tortures by heads of local administrations of Iran have become frequent.

The resolution demands from the Iranian Government to stop pressure on Azerbaijanis. "We have also expressed a protest to the statement of chief of the Iranian Armed Forces related to the expected visit of Israeli President Shimon Peres to Azerbaijan," he added.

Opposition Musavat party was founded in Baku in Oct 1911. The third (restoration) sitting of Musavat party was held on 7 Nov 1992 in Republican Pal ace in Baku. Isa Gambar was elected head of the Musavat party in a landslide in a secret vote.

Gambar was the speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament from 1992 to 1993. In 2003, he ran for presidency. The party is represented by 4 MPs in the Parliament.
