Turkmenistan will actively develop and expand relations with the United States, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said the day before at a government meeting, after discussing the results of the 10th meeting of the joint committee Turkey-EU relations in Brussels yesterday,ITAR-TASS quoted Deputy Premier, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov as saying.
"The meeting of the Committee was held successfully and the basic direction of cooperation, which is of great interest, is energy," Berdymuhamedov said, PRIME-TASS reported.
Speaking about country's "pragmatic" foreign policy, Berdymuhamedov recalled that recently /Turkmen authorities/ paid state visit to Russia to sign a number of mutually beneficial agreements. Turkmenistan successfully develops relations with EU countries. Based on this, I think we have to take a step towards the United States and develop and expand relations with it. We attach great importance to our bilateral relations with that country.
"Recently, politicians and businessmen have shown great interest in the U.S. to cooperate with us" the Turkmen president said, authorizing the Vice-Premier Meredov in the third decade of June to visit the United States and hold talks on the development of mutually beneficial cooperation. "The outcome of the visit should be to identify promising areas of long-term cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States," the president said.
