Georgia and Azerbaijan are interested in strengthening bilateral relations and promotion of cultural relations, Azerbaijani Culture Minister Abulfas Garayev said at today's joint news conference with Minister of Culture of Georgia Nika Rurua in Tbilisi.

The Day of Azerbaijani Culture started in Tbilisi through concert of cultural workers in the Opera and Ballet Theatre on June 16. Representatives of Azerbaijani culture and art performed in front of the Georgians.

Although there are close cultural relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan, the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Georgia is a very significant event. "These activities are necessary for our peoples to further understand the essence of our culture and that cultural exchange has become more intense, though, as I said, these contacts are well advanced," Garayev said.

Georgian Culture Minister Rurua believes that deepening the cultural relations between the two brotherly peoples must begin with strengthening of regional relations. "There is a need to establish close relations between different regions of Georgia and Azerbaijan, and to organize exchanges between the national teams of choreography, singers, theater groups, etc., that will allow us to make our relationships richer and cover most of the population," he said.

The exhibition of Azerbaijani photographers will be opened in the Karvasla exhibition hall in Tbilisi today.
