Azerbaijan is for rapid restoration of stability in Iran.

"Iran is a neighbor country with Azerbaijan and we support positive outcome of the situation in this country," Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov told journalists on June 22.

The deputy minister expressed his confidence that the situation in Iran will not reach a critical milestone and the conflict will be solved via a political way and an agreement will be reached between different groups of the society on a democratic base.

The Saturday clash with the police in Tehran claimed lives of 19 people, CNN reported with the reference to sources in hospitals

Hundreds of people who disagree with the results of the June 12 presidential elections in Iran launched protest actions which led to clash with the police. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the presidential elections, gaining 63.6 percent of votes.

According to unconfirmed data, the street clashes killed 150 people.

The police used tear gas, batons and water cannons to disperse demonstrators.

The protesters openly ignored warnings made by the Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the Security Council of the Islamic republic on June 19. Under these warnings, the organizers of the protests, specifically Mousavi will be arrested, if the protests lead to bloodshed.

Mousavi urged the people to start a national strike in the event of his arrest, Reuters reported.
