Georgia to do its best to protect Russian soldier’s right: FM

Georgia will do its best to protect Russian soldier Artemyev's rights. Russia confirmed that the reason of escape from a military unit in Pereva was "grandfathers", whilst they filed a lawsuit on Dmitriy Artemyev in accordance with article on Desertion, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Nalbandov reported.

Artemyev met with a representative of Switzerland's Embassy representing interests of Georgia and Russia, Georgia informed.

Georgia in cooperation with international organizations will do its best to protect the soldier's rights, Nalbandov said.

Artemyev was issued a category of competitor for refugee status. Issuing him a status of regugee decision will be solved in the coming months, Nalbandov said.

Meanwhile, Russian deserter's mother could not persuade her son to return home, the head of Foreign Ministry's administration Shota Khizanashvili said.

Artemyev's mother was in Tbilisi and met with her son. Artemyev kept his ground. He intends to stay in Georgia and to get asylum here. Later his mother left Georgia, he added.
