Georgian deputy foreign minister discusses situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia with EU special representative

Georgia, Tbilisi, August 3 / Trend N. Kirtshalia / Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Alexander Nalbandov met with the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby on August 3.

The sides discussed the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the Foreign Ministry's press department reported.

Military action in the territory of the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia began on the night of 8 August last year. Georgian troops entered the capital of South Ossetia - Tskhinvali, and later, Russian troops occupied the city and pushed the Georgian military to the territory of Georgia.
On August 26, Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, official part of Georgia, and on September 9, established diplomatic relations with them.
