Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister unable to confirm Georgian readiness to admit prisoners imprisoned in Guantanamo. During a formal briefing on August 24, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Nalbandov, said that he was unable to comment on the information, which he had 'no idea' about.
"So I cannot confirm this information," he said.
The influential U.S daily, 'The Washington Post', has spread information about Georgia's readiness to admit prisoners of the U.S prison in Guantanamo (Cuba). The author of the article wrote that according to information from a representative of Barack Obama's administration, Washington has already held positive talks with Tbilisi on this issue.
"Georgia has already expressed its readiness to assist. During an interview high-ranking Georgian officials even joked that Tbilisi was ready to admit all Guantanamo prisoners if the USA placed a military base in Georgia," the article said.
It is known that six EU member states, Great Britain, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain, have openly agreed to admit Guantanamo prisoners.
