Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov will make a speech at the upcoming 64th UN General Assembly in September, as head of the country elected as the forum's Vice-Chair, the governmental press-service reported.

Turkmenistan, with its Constitution specifying its status of positive neutrality, has recently taken a number of peaceful initiatives, in particular, opening the UN Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia in Ashgabat. The government has also proposed the adoption of a special convention aimed at ensuring the security of energy supplies to markets, under the auspices of the UN.

As part of the session, Berdimuhammedov will have talks with the leaders of several countries and international organizations, taking into account the enormous interest of the political and business elite both in the Turkmen leader's visit and in Turkmenistan as a whole, the press service said. In particular, there is a tentative agreement for a meeting with the King of Jordan, Trend reported.

"We will follow the course of broad international cooperation further, working closely with the influential international agencies and with the UN primarily, on topical issues of regional and international politics, development, economic cooperation and the strengthening of humanitarian ties to common progress and prosperity," Berdimuhamedov said at the latest meeting of cabinet ministers.
