Georgia, Tbilisi, August 26 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia /

Poti Court sentenced former captain of BUKET ship, Azerbaijani citizen Ilgar Imanverdiyev, to two months' imprisonment as a preliminary measure, a source at the Poti Court told Trend on August 26.

Thus, the court satisfied the petition of prosecutor's office, which states that he repeatedly violated Georgian territorial waters and visited Abkhazia with smuggled freight when he was a captain of the ship operating under Panama flag.

Imanverdiyev was detained at Edirne tanker under a flag of Sierra-Leone in Batumi while passport examining.  This tanker was fined by Georgia for water pollution. After paying a fine, it was released.

However, while passport examining ex-captain of BUKET, Imanverdiyev, was detained.

A source at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia told Trend that the diplomats are consulting with the Georgian side and will take all legitimate measures to protect the rights of the citizen of Azerbaijan.
