As a result of measures taken by staff of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) in cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office, were arrested members of organized gang involved in smuggling from Azerbaijan to Russia and vice-versa. Some 110 boxes were withdrawn from them, in which were packed expensive goods totaling about $1 million.
The joint statement by the MNS and the Prosecutor General's Office on Sept. 19 says that a citizen of Russia Yunus Bedigov, who resides in Astrakhan, and residents of Khachmaz district of Azerbaijan Shirzal Fatulaev, his sons Firuz and Natig and Adalat Dadashov, his brothers Jamo and Elman Israfilov, as part of organized gang, packed expensive goods and tried to remove them from Azerbaijan to Russia, evading customs control.
A special operations group was established to prevent illegal activities of the organized gangs. Yunus Bedigov, Shirzal and Natig Fatullayev on Gazel car with state mark 01 BX 554 driven by Firuz arrived at the beach in Khachmaz district, where they were arrested while loading boxes filled with expensive goods on the motor-boat, interrupting border of Azerbaijan with Russia.
Other members of the gang of Jamo and Elman, who for security of organized criminal gang were on duty on a motorcycle "Honda", were also arrested.
During the operation, the criminals did not obey the special group "Gartal" of the Ministry of National Security and began shooting. As a result of retaliatory shooting by MNS, Natig Fatullayev was defused, and another gang member Yunus Bedigov was wounded and hospitalized.
During the inspection of the scene in cooperation with local law-enforcement officers, was discovered a pistol "Makarov". A criminal case was filed over the fact under articles 206.4, 228.1 and 315.2 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Investigation department on heinous crimes of Prosecutor's Office is investigating the fact.
Investigation of all the facts of the criminal case, the operational-search measures to discover other participants of illegal activities are continuing.
