GUAM implementing anti-terrorism project

The GUAM Working Group on combating terrorism has coordinated proposals to implement a new project of the GUAM-U.S. Framework Program "Combating terrorism: regional cooperation and security" for 2009-2010, the GUAM Secretariat said.
The third meeting of the working group on combating terrorism, held in Baku under Azerbaijan's chairmanship, took into account the information of the GUAM members on the activities of law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism in the territory of the GUAM countries. The meeting also reviewed progress in implementing relevant activities under the Plan of organizational and practical activities of the Working Group on combating terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking in 2009.
GUAM Organization was established in 1997 during the Summit of Heads of States of the European Union for regional cooperation, but practically was inactive by 2005. During the past three years, the GUAM has focused on the settlement of regional conflicts and the coordination of efforts to ensure energy security.
