In a letter addressed to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow, Chairman of Cuba's State Council, Raul Castro emphasized "the desire to develop friendly relations between countries".

The message was timed to celebration of the eighteenth anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence to be celebrated on October 29. Hearty congratulations on the occasion of national holiday were expressed in the letter.

A delegation of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, headed by Deputy Director of European Department, Santiago Pérez Benítez was in Ashgabat last week.

Several meetings were held in ministries and departments, including the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prospects of Turkmenistan-Cuba cooperation, including within the international organizations were discussed at the talks.

At present, Turkmenistan intensified cooperation with countries of Latin America.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez arrived in Ashgabat in 2009.

He suggested Turkmenistan joining the organization of countries producing this kind of fuel. Turkmenistan holds the fourth place in the world on the largest gas reserves.
