"I am pleased that people with Georgian roots hold senior positions in Turkey," Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said at a meeting with Turkish State Minister Faruk Chelik.

Chelik is an ethnic Laz.

"We are pleased with the progress of parliamentarians, governmental officials and businessmen with Georgian roots and this further strengthens our friendly ties with Turkey," he added.

During the meeting, the sides discussed Georgian-Turkish bilateral relations. The sides noted that these relations are progressing and the two countries have established strategic relations backed by a political and economic vision.

The Turkish delegation headed by Chelik visited Georgia to hand over keys to 100 new homes built with the support of the Turkish government in the Sakasheti village, which was severly affected by the Russia-Georgia war.
