The Nationwide Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev was commemorated in Kiev on Dec. 12. "Heydar Aliyev is the architect of today's Azerbaijan. If he would not be, today's Azerbaijan would not exist," the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Talat Aliyev said during the event, held at the monument to Heydar Aliyev in Kiev.
In his speech, he stressed Heydar Aliyev's role as the founder of the principles based on which modern Azerbaijan is developing today, as well as the role of the current President Ilham Aliyev in continuing the work on the country's development.
The event dedicated to Heydar Aliyev's memory was attended by the representatives of Ukrainian authorities, public organizations, Azerbaijani diasporas.
A wreath was laid to the monument to Heydar Aliyev on behalf of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko.
Many speakers noted Heydar Aliyev's role in the development of bilateral Azerbaijani-Ukrainian relations, as well as his personal contribution to Ukraine, which he made while working in the government of the USSR. In particular, Heydar Aliyev's work in liquidating the consequence of the Chernobyl disaster was appreciated.
Heydar Aliyev is commemorated in Ukraine, said Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Ukraine. So, an Institute of Sociology named after Heydar Aliyev functions at the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (one of the Ukrainian universities). "There, the students also conduct an event dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, as well as there is a bust of Heydar Aliyev at the Institute," said the Ambassador.
