Today Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev took part at the municipal elections.
About 15,682 members are planned to be elected to 1,718 municipalities.
Azerbaijan has registered about 31,000 candidates for municipal members. Candidates from 16 political parties have been registered for elections. Candidates refer to 30 political parties.
Municipal elections were held twice in 1999 and 2004.
The CEC registered 48,388 observers, including 1,160 local observers and 52 foreign observers.
Web-cameras have been installed in 500 polling stations in accordance with the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission's (CEC) decision. About 289 web-cameras were installed in 37 districts of the country, including the Absheron region, 189 in Baku and 25 in Nakhchivan. Those desiring can observe the election process through the Internet.
