European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule will pay an official visit to Turkey March.15-16 to discuss the main issues of Turkish-European cooperation, the EU reported.

European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule will pay an official visit to Turkey March.15-16 to discuss the main issues of Turkish-European cooperation, the EU reported.

"I am confident that at the end of the process it will be a new, modern and reformed Turkey whose accession to the EU will be to the benefit of both the EU and Turkey".

Fule's current visit to Turkey is the first after his entry to this position few months ago.

During his stay he will have meetings with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagis, and Vice-Prime Minister Ali Babacan.

In Ankara the Commissioner will also participate in a meeting with the EU Harmonisation Committee of the Grand National Assembly, chaired by Yasar Yakis.

In Istanbul Commissioner Stefan Fule will meet the Greek Orthodox Patriarch.

Since 1999 Turkey has the status of candidate country for entrance to the EU and since 2005 has being conducting formal talks on entrance.

Turkey is a member of the crucial European institutions. Since 1949, Turkey has been a member of the Council of Europe (the first All-European organization for the protection of European values), since 1952 has been a member of the main European security organization - NATO.
