The United States is deeply disturbed by the violence in Southern Kyrgyzstan, the U.S. Embassy Statement on the Situation in Kyrgyzstan says.

"We commend the Government and the people of Uzbekistan for accommodating refugees seeking shelter in the Fergana Valley and stand ready to provide assistance through the UN and others in these efforts," the embassy reported.

The riots in southern Kyrgyzstan began 10 June. Kyrgyz and Uzbek people clashed in the city of Osh, which is called the southern capital of the country. The interim government of Kyrgyzstan introduced a state of emergency in the city and several districts of the Osh region, as well as in the city of Jalal-Abad and Suzak district of the Jalalabad region.

According to the official data, the death toll in riots reached more than 200 people.

During this period, over 75,000 ethnic Uzbeks from southern regions of Kyrgyzstan have crossed the border with Uzbekistan.

The Uzbek government organized more than 30 camps, providing refugees with bedding, food and medicines, in the Andijan region bordering Kyrgyzstan.
