Azerbaijani interior minister receives NATO special representative for Caucasus and Central Asia

Azerbaijani Interior Minister, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov received a delegation headed by NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Robert Simmons, Interior Ministry's press service said.

The minister said that based on the principle of indivisibility of security in the Euro-Atlantic area, Azerbaijan participates in NATO-led peacekeeping operations mandated by the UN Security Council. Republic attentively considers the prospects of cooperation with NATO and is trying to make its contribution.  

The minister said that during 13 years since the signing of an intergovernmental protocol between Turkey and Azerbaijan on the training and assistance in providing personnel of the Interior Troops by the Turkish Gendarmerie, a large number of troops have been involved in trainings. Currently, the training center of the Armed Forces and the Gendarmerie of Turkey continue to train 21 people.

Upon a joint plan, 22 trainings will be conducted in various centers of the Armed Forces and the Gendarmerie of Turkey in 2010-2011.

Simmons mentioned Azerbaijan's active participation in the peacekeeping mission of NATO and the expansion of cooperation.
