Uzbek national security service destroys 1.7 tons of drugs

The Uzbek national security service's oficers destroyed another batch of drugs in the amount of 1.731 tons seized by the law enforcement bodies in the fight against drug trafficking June 25. Drugs were destroyed in a gas furnace of one of the enterprises located in the industrial zone near Tashkent.

The Uzbek national security service's oficers destroyed another batch of drugs in the amount of 1.731 tons seized by the law enforcement bodies in the fight against drug trafficking June 25. Drugs were destroyed in a gas furnace of one of the enterprises located in the industrial zone near Tashkent.

The officers burned 749 kilos of heroin, 649 kilograms of opium, 329 kilos of marijuana, 42.3 kilograms of hashish, as well as a large number of poppy straw, hemp and psychotropic drugs in pill form and solutions, in the presence of members of the State Commission for Drug Control and representatives of UN and other international organizations, public and media agencies.

The first action for the destruction of drugs was held in May 1994. Then the country destroyed 14 tons of drugs. So far, Uzbekistan destroyed 45 tons of drugs.

Uzbekistan joined the UN Conventions on Narcotic Drugs (in February 1995 1961), Psychotropic Substances (1971) and Fight against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (1988). The country adopted the law "On Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in 2000.
