Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov emphasized the need to further strengthen maritime boundaries on the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea at a recent Turkmen Security Council meeting, a governmental press service reported.

At the meeting, Berdimuhammedov signed a decree ordering the construction of a shipyard at the State Border Service.

"The Turkmen military doctrine is purely defensive in nature," Berdimuhamedov said.

He added that Turkmenistan has chosen the status of a permanently neutral state.

"All these years, we have steadily pursued a policy of peacemaking and good neighborliness, acting as a kind of guarantor of regional stability and security," Berdimuhammedov said.
