CE representative: Int'l organizations and Azerbaijani government aim to hold democratic elections

The aim of the Council of Europe and other international organizations, as well as the Azerbaijani government is holding transparent, open and democratic elections in Azerbaijan, Council of Europe Baku Representative Office head Veronika Kotek said at the seminar organized by the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Venice Commission.

The aim of the Council of Europe and other international organizations, as well as the Azerbaijani government is holding transparent, open and democratic elections in Azerbaijan, Council of Europe Baku Representative Office head Veronika Kotek said at the seminar organized by the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Venice Commission.

"The upcoming parliamentary elections will be a kind of test for democracy in Azerbaijan and will identify what the electoral commission had learned from previous elections," Kotek said.

Kotek commended the work of the CEC in preparation for the elections.

Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan Nov. 7, 2010. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held according to the majority system in Azerbaijan's 125 constituencies.
