In Azerbaijan, some intellectuals appealed to the opposition parties to support their candidates in the parliamentary elections, chairman of the opposition Azerbaijan National Democratic Party (ANDP) Tufan Kerimli told Trend on July 7.

"The party will be able to support the candidacies of several representatives of intellectuals well known in the Azerbaijani society. No final decision has been made on this issue, so I can not say anything about their names," said Kerimli.

Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn 2010. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral districts.

According to party chairman, talks are held with the Azadlyg Party, a member of the Union for Democracy.

"We held talks with chairman of the Azadlyg Party Ahmed Orujov. An initial decision has been made to cooperate. According to this decision, ANDP and Azadlyg Party will jointly support candidates in the constituencies," said Kerimli.
ANDP will nominate 62 candidates for parliamentary elections, the party chairman said.
