The International Conference on Afghanistan will be launched in Kabul July 20, Kazakh Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ilyas Omarov told Trend.

The conference will discuss issues of security, development, regional cooperation, reconciliation and reintegration.

"The conference will pay special attention to issues related to transfer of responsibility to the Afghan security forces for the conduct of military operations," Omarov said.

He said the Afghan side is going to appeal to the international community to provide support for the program and the national security strategy, which will be presented at the conference.

"The conference will also revise 14 comprehensive national programs to improve the socio-economic situation in key areas (agriculture, education, mining, energy and transport infrastructure)," Omarov said.

Omarov noted that the conference will discuss ways of expanding Afghanistan's neighbors' cooperation with the regional states to deal with terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime, as well as affecting the interests of Afghanistan and the region.

"The participants will be briefed on the outcome of Afghanistan's National Consultative Peace Jirga's council held

in Kabul June 2-4, 2010. The international community is expected to support Afghanistan's efforts for reconciliation and reintegration, through financial contributions to Afghan Trust Fund for peace and reconciliation," Omarov said.

Omarov noted that another key focus of the Conference would be strengthening og the fight against corruption.

Representatives of more than 70 countries, international and regional organizations and financial institutions were invited to the Kabul conference.
