The Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania considers extension of the EU observer mission for a year as an "important event". "This decision confirms that the EU is interested in preservation of stability and security in the region, including in Georgia," he said in an interview with journalists.

The Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania considers extension of the EU observer mission for a year as an "important event". "This decision confirms that the EU is interested in preservation  of stability and security in the region, including in Georgia," he said in an interview with journalists.

Jalagania said "the subject of ongoing dialogue is full implementation of the mission's mandate, and our partners in the EU always put this issue on the agenda." He expressed hope that the result will be achieved.

EU Council of Ministers decided to extend the EU observer mission's mandate for a year - till September 14, 2011.
