1,134 internationally and locally wanted individuals were arrested over the six months of the year, deputy interior minister lieutenant-general Vilayat Eyvazov said at the board meeting of the Interior Ministry.
Of those arrested, 68 people were hiding in the CIS and others in foreign countries, said the deputy minister. The places of 45 persons internationally wanted by Azerbaijani national bureau of Interpol and 21 persons being wanted by Interpol were determined.
During the reporting period, 110 organized gangs uniting 383 people were neutralized. These criminal gangs have committed 391 serious and particularly serious crimes, including 12 murders, three kidnappings, one fact of banditry. Each group has committed 35 facts of robbery and burglary.
According to Eyvazov, 664 firearms and about 50,000 bullets were withdrawn and 38 people were made criminally responsible for such crimes.
About 4,011 falsified bank notes amounting to 303,000 manat were withdrawn from illegal turnover.
About 11 crimes were revealed related to consumer fraud or the manufacture and sale of defective products. More than 57 tons of various expired food products, counterfeit building materials, 1,200 counterfeit alcoholic drinks, four clandestine production facilities were discovered.
Over the six months of this year, 36 criminal gangs consisting of 115 persons were detained, more than 317 kilograms of narcotics were withdrawn, the importation of smuggled drugs weighing 63.5 kg was prevented.
As a result of preventive operations, 214 tons of green plant mass containing drugs have been destroyed.
As a result of measures to prevent and eliminate trafficking in persons, 57 facts of crime were revealed, 21 people were made criminally responsible, 27 persons - victims of such illegal acts - were identified.
