An enlarged operational meeting on work performed by the prosecution in the first half of 2010 on the areas identified under the law of Azerbaijan Republic On Prosecutor's Office and the results of its discussions at regional meetings was held on Friday.

According to the Attorney General's Office, the Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov addressed the meeting.

According to him, in the first half of 2010 compared with the corresponding period of last year, the number of cases of intentional harm has decreased by 2,3 percent, kidnappings - by 42,9 per cent, rape - in 2,6 times, robbery - by 26, 3 per cent, robbery - by 14.8 percent, hooliganism - by 3,2 percent.

Also significantly decreased the number of crimes against foreign citizens, there have been no cases of hostage-taking, of 11,375 crimes have been solved 87, 3 per cent.

In addition, according to Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov, were cleared 110 organized criminal groups, bringing together in total 383 persons who had committed 391 serious crimes, including 12 homicides and three kidnappings.

In the result of this investigation and search operations were uncovered 188 serious crimes committed in previous years.

It was also noted that the Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan in the first half of 2010 completed investigation of 58 criminal cases against 116 people accused of abuse of authority and other facts of this kind. They were sent for review to the relevant courts.
