Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, Netherlands’ Justice Ministry sign memorandum of cooperation

Azerbaijani Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of the Netherlands signed a memorandum of understanding on non-operational cooperation in criminal cases.

The memorandum was signed within Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Ernst Hirsch Ballin's visit to Azerbaijan, the Interior Ministry told Trend.

Aug.10, Interior Minister, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov received a delegation headed by Ernst Hirsch Ballin.

The Minister informed the guest about the functions and activities of the Interior Ministry, as well as tense socio-political and criminal situation in the first years of independence.

Recalling that Azerbaijan occupies one of the last places among the CIS countries for number of crimes per 100,000 people, Usubov said that control over the criminogenic situation and stability, primarily creates an opportunity for a safe residence and citizens and foreigners' activities, as well as for investing major funds in the country's economy.

He spoke about the problems that law enforcement officers face during their service. According to him, combating transnational organized crime, illegal migration, human trafficking, drug trafficking and other threats is urgent for all countries. Usubov spoke about the importance of joint struggle of the states, the authoritative international organizations against similar global crimes.

Ballin said that there are changes for the better in all areas in Azerbaijan. He expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of all spheres and economic progress in the country. Bellin also expressed the hope that the police forces will continue to participate actively in the process of democratic transformation.
